Pulmonary Tuberculosis

The Cause TB is caused by the TB germ which is breathed into the lungs via the tiny drops of moisture sprayed into the air by cough or sneeze of people with active TB in the infectious stage.
Signs & Symptoms of T.B.
  1. Persistent cough of 2 weeks or more producing yellow or greenish sputum.
  2. Loss of weight.
  3. Tiredness
  4. Hoarseness of voice.
  5. Fever, night sweats and occasionally coughing out blood.
Anyone who cough 2 weeks or more. Go to the nearest hospital/ health centre for examination and investigation to exclude tuberculosis.
Early detection and effective treatment
Detection & Treatment available in all health facilities in the country:
  • Hospitals
  • Health Centres
  • All private Clinics
  • Follow the treatment prescribed by the doctor regularly and continuously.
  • Come for examination and review as advised.
  • Polyclinics
  • Dispensaries
  • Sputum examination and other investigations and examinations are carried out by the doctor.
  • Follow the advice of the Doctor and Medical Staff.
Contacts of TB patients Persons who are in close, constant and prolonged contact with TB patients.

Family : Husband / Wife, Parents, Brothers / Sisters, Children.
Relatives : Those who have close and frequent contact or share the same household with the patient.
Friends : Working in, and sharing the same room.
Contact : Should go to the nearest hospital / health centre for examination and investigation as soon as possible.

Investigations carried out :
a) Sputum Examination.
b) Tuberculin Test.
c) X-Ray Chest.

All contacts listed are to come for investigation immediately.

Early Detection Early Cure!

Tuberculosis can be cured Short Course Treatment ( 6 months )

1) Initial Phase - 2 months of taking tablets injection daily. Sunday to take tablets
2) Continuing Phase - 4 months of taking tablets injection twice weekly

Injection Schedule
a) Mondays and Thursdays
b) Tuesdays and Fridays
c) Wednesdays and Saturdays

Any untoward effects, inform Chest Clinic Doctor Immediately

Defaulting Treatment- Defaulting Treatment will result in recurrence of the disease which will be more difficult to CURE.
